The steamboat wharf- Kinsale, Virginia, Early 1900's
This scene takes place in the early 1900's at Kinsale, Virginia in a colonial port of entry when the steamboat era was at its peak. Kinsale developed into a bustling port down during this period. It. is located on the peninsula between the Rappahannock and Potomac Rivers which is called the Northern Neck. This area is on the shore of the Yeocomico River, near the confluence of the Potomac and Chesapeake Bay. Seen here on this cold winter's eve the tavern keeper returns home to his wife and a warm fire. Upstairs, dim candlelight still glows as the watchmaker, William R. Franklin, works late into the night.
On the dock to the right is the stern of a passenger/freight steamer awaiting another busy day. Anchored beyond in the creek are schooners typical of the period.
