WINTER ON THE EASTERN SHORE

Steamboat Wharf and Hopkins & Brother Store, Onancock, Virginia, Early 1900's

The charming town of Onancock is located on the Bay side of Virginia's Eastern Shore. Here we see the waterfront blanketed by a winter snow. Hopkins & Brother Store overlooks the wharf, which has been the hub of the town's activity for over 300 years. The sidewheel steamboat Eastern Shore, which called on the area for over half a century, is leaving her berth for the long trip down Onancock Creek and back to Baltimore. Mallards landing on the north branch of the creek complete the scene on this crisp, winter's morning.
