Admiral George Dewey (1837–1917) was an iconic United States Navy officer, best remembered for his decisive victory at the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish-American War in 1898. He remains the only person in U.S. naval history to hold the elite rank of Admiral of the Navy.
