This historic house and garden was home to three generations of Carrolls and the birthplace of Charles Carroll of Carrollton (1737-1832). Charles Carroll was the only Roman Catholic signer of the Declaration of Independence. Carroll inherited this home as well as vast agricultural estates in Maryland and ownership of hundreds of enslaved persons.
