Bancroft Hall, Naval Academy

Midshipmen enter Bancroft Hall, named for George Bancroft, who inspired the naval school in 1845, after noon formation. The brigade is housed in Bancroft. This building has murals depicting famous naval battles and, in Memorial Hall, has relics including the flag that Perry’s ship flew during the battle of Lake Erie. It was there the famous commander uttered the words, “Don’t give up the ship.”
