| Once known as the Severn Boat Club, the Annapolis Yacht Club is one of the oldest in the country and traces its origin to 1886. It has about 1,200 members, almost 75 per cent of whom own boats, and overlooks Spa Creek and the colorful Annapolis harbor. The present building, which some members refer to as “Japanese Colonial” in style, was completed in 1963 at a cost of $500,000. The club is the starting point in alternate years for the classic yacht race between Annapolis and Newport. This photograph appeared in Chesapeake Bay & Tidewater, by A.
