The Emma Giles landing at the steamboat wharf- Annapolis, MD

Since it's founding in 1695, Annapolis has had an important and colorful history. Once a port of entry for ocean-going sailing ships, it still retains much of its early seafaring glory. In this scene, representative of the waterfront during the turn of the Century, we see the side-wheel steamer Emma Giles landing at the steamboat wharf amid a plethora of traditional Chesapeake Bay sailing vessels. On the skyline overlooking the harbor, just as they do today, are the steeple of St. Anne's Church and the dome of Maryland's State House.
