In the late 19th century, Grove Avenue was a fashionable route for afternoon carriage rides and excursions through the city. Today it is still one of the most favored and stylish avenues in the Fan. On a crisp fall afternoon, a couple strolls hand in hand admiring the charming architectural style of Grove Avenue. It was during the turn of the century that the residential development around Richmond began to flourish. As the city expanded, the streets fanned out and this area became known as the Fan District.

Many of the homes that are treasured today were the visions of the affluent Richmonders of that period.

This view is facing east on the eighteen hundred block of Grove Avenue.
