Leonard Mizerek
A Fellow in the American Society of Marine Artists (ASMA), Leonard Mizerek is internationally known for his colorful and luminous seascapes. He paints on site from exotic coastal locations and harbors using light as a major component in his marine artworks. In his words:
"Light alters the color of all objects and touches those nearby. It sets a mood and evokes emotion, which I strive to portray in my work. I often explore various methods to interpret the way I view nature. I prefer marine subjects because I enjoy the way water reflects the floating objects, as well as the sky and time of day. It mirrors shapes and intensifies light. I paint outdoors to capture the light first hand and bring out all its color and luminosity."
Growing up in the Pennsylvania Brandwine Valley, his early influence came from the Pennsylvania Impressionists and Brandwine School. Along Leonard's storied career, he has garnered many awards and accolades, including Artist in Residence at the Musuem Yvonne Jean-Haffen in Dinan (France), the Salzman Award for Excellence in Painting from the National Arts Club, the Iron Man Award from the AMSA, Merit Award at the Coos Art Museum in Washington state, 2nd place in the Plein Air Eston Quick Draw, and honorable mention Dueling Brushes in Paint Annapolis. Collections by Leonard are on display at the Forbes Museum (NYC), Museum Yvonne (France), and the Minnesota Marine Art Museum.
