EVENING ON THE HUDSON RIVER
11" x 14" Original Oil Painting
Traffic on the Hudson River off of Manhattan in the 1890s. The recently completed Statue of Liberty is in the center. The spire of Trinity church towers over Manhattan to the left. New York was a horizontal city in those pre-elevator days. Trinity’s spire was the tallest structure in the city, and served as a landmark for mariners coming into the harbor. Trinity church is still there, at the corner of Broadway and Wall St, but can be difficult to see among the skyscrapers that have grown up around it.
