| PAUL LANDRY |
Paul was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He knew very
early on that he wanted to paint and spent every spare moment drawing and painting. He attended the Nova Scotia College of Art and often went with the fishermen on the Nova Scotia banks to observe and experience the sea first hand. He pulled up traps and nets with them, always recording his observations in his sketchbook or with a camera. Paul believes that you have to know your subject in order to paint it well. Spending time on the sea enables him to capture the many moods of it in his paintings. Paul Landry captures the atmosphere of coastal New England in all its modesty and warmth. Scenes expressing the essence of spring - blue hydrangeas, the new blooms on the rose arbor and the light dappling a classic cape cod shingled roof. These are maritime scenes familiar to generations of art lovers.
Upon his arrival in the United States, he attended the Art Students League in New York by day and worked as an engraver by night. After his studies there he took a sabbatical in Nova Scotia where he painted the many faces of the sea and its people. This has become an annual painting holiday since.
He does a good deal of illustration and design for national accounts. As an instructor for Famous Artists School in Westport, Connecticut, he taught a variety of subjects in various media. His paintings hang in private collections throughout North America and Europe. Paul's literary achievements include two books: ON DRAWING AND PAINTING and THE CAPTAIN'S GARDEN: A Reflective Journey Home Through the Art of Paul Landry, published to unanimous praise in 1996. His third book , AT THE HEART OF CHRISTMAS, published in 2001, was an instant sell-out.
He makes his home in Connecticut where he enjoys photography, golf, classical music and gardening with his wife and their three children. Enormously versatile, he works in a variety of mediums, including etching. Every subject is worth painting but most especially, the wonderful, limitless sea. |

"A Sailor's Garden"
Giclee Print on Canvas 15" x 24" $435 Stretched, $785 Framed
In “A Sailor's Garden,” Paul Landry combines both of these worlds to create both a beautiful composition and a collector's dream come true. Radiant with hues and warm with nostalgic ambiance, Landry's images tenderly wed flowers with our own universal fond memories. His own love of gardening is his inspiration. Of A Sailor's Garden, Landry says "Even though the sailor may be at sea for months at a time and enjoy it immensely, he also loves the time spent in his garden caring for the earth. Both sea and land calling his heart and hand. But, I wonder, if he had to make a choice, would he agree that there is no placelike home? And is there truly any other place like your own garden?"

"The Schooner's Return"
Signed & Numbered Print on Paper 16" x 22" $295
Paul reminisces, "For generations, schooners have harvested the rich fishing banks off Nova Scotia. They could be out for weeks at a time, fishing ’til their vessels could hold no more, before racing back home knowing ‘first in brought best price.’ In the 1930s and ’40s, my Uncle Joe and his sons sailed these craft and told me many a sea story. This painting honors them and all seamen who sailed these magnificent schooners."
