Geoff Hunt is one of Britain’s leading marine artists, and Vice-President of the prestigious Royal Society of Marine Artists. His international reputation is founded on studies of historic square-riggers, particularly those of the Napoleonic era, and his bookcover artwork will be very familiar to those who love naval fiction, particularly the novels of Patrick O’Brian. Geoff Hunt’s paintings are to be found in permanent collections in the U.K. (the Royal Naval Museum at Portsmouth has twelve of them), in the U.S.A., and in private collections worldwide.
Geoff also takes a keen interest in the contemporary maritime scene and has completed paintings ranging in subject matter from the naval Fleet Reviews at Spithead to the Fastnet race. He was prize winner of the “Best Painting - Champagne Mumm Admiral’s Cup 1991.” He has sailed a wide range of vessels, from dinghies in the Solent to the 440’, five masted square rigger Royal Clipper in the Mediterranean (and has been seasick on most of them!).
He was elected to membership of the RSMA in 1989. He was responsible for the compilation and production of the RSMA’s book, A Celebration of Marine Art, and The Tall Ships in Art. Geoff’s work appears in many standard marine art reference works. |
